What is Tongits?

Tongits is the quintessential Filipino card game that has been a staple of social gatherings and entertainment for generations. At Big Bunny Click, we bring this beloved classic to the digital realm with an immersive online experience that captures the excitement and strategic depth of traditional Tongits.

Whether you are a seasoned Tongits veteran or a curious newcomer eager to learn the ropes, our platform offers everything you need to enjoy this timeless card game. The objective is simple: form melds (combinations of three or more cards of the same rank or sequential runs of the same suit) and be the first to empty your hand while minimizing your point total.

Tongits combines elements of luck and skill, making every game a unique challenge. Players must carefully manage their hand, strategically discard cards, and know when to call "Tongits" to secure victory. The game rewards both quick thinking and strategic planning, providing endless hours of entertainment.

How to Play Tongits

  • 1

    Understand the Objective

The main goal in Tongits is to have the lowest point total when someone calls Tongits or when the draw pile is exhausted. Points are calculated based on the cards remaining in your hand, with face cards valued at 10 points, Aces at 1 point, and number cards at their face value.

  • 2

    Form Melds

Create valid combinations by grouping cards into melds. A valid meld can be either three or four cards of the same rank (like three Kings), or a run of three or more consecutive cards of the same suit (like 5-6-7 of Hearts). Meld early to reduce your point burden.

  • 3

    Draw and Discard

On your turn, draw one card from the draw pile or the discard pile. Then, discard one card face-up to the discard pile. Be strategic about which card you discard - you might want to keep cards that complete potential melds.

  • 4

    Call Tongits

When you believe your hand has minimal points and is ready, you can call Tongits to end the round. However, if another player has a lower point total, you will lose. Timing is crucial - call too early and you risk losing, call too late and someone else may win.

  • 5

    Score and Win

After a player calls Tongits or the draw pile is exhausted, all players reveal their hands. Points are tallied, and the player with the lowest score wins the round. The winning player collects points from opponents based on the difference in scores.

Pro Tips to Master Tongits

Keep Track of Discards
Pay attention to which cards have been discarded. This helps you know which cards are likely still available and which melds opponents might be building.
Balance Risk and Reward
Do not hold onto high-point cards hoping to complete a meld. Sometimes it is better to meld what you have and reduce your points rather than chase unlikely combinations.
Watch Your Opponents
Notice patterns in how opponents play. If they consistently draw from the discard pile, they might be building a run. Adjust your strategy accordingly to block their melds.
Time Your Call
Calling Tongits too early can be costly. Wait until you have a genuinely low point total. Sometimes it is better to wait for the draw pile to empty than to risk an early call.
